Про спікера

He has worked full time in orthodontics from 1997, including a several years undertaking contemporary orthodontics at a busy NHS clinic. Influenced by his father, and unhappy with the treatment outcomes of traditional orthodontics, he then moved to pursue a career developing and perfecting the orthotropic approach to treatment. Dr Mew give lectures frequently has lectured in most continents in the world, frequently being a key note lecturer. He has taught orthotropics at a postgraduate level to approaching 100 dentists and orthodontist both internationally and at the LSFO, where he runs quarterly courses. His research to date has been in muscle function, resting lip posture and influencing facial growth. He is fixated with the question “why”, which lead him to question much of the conventional wisdom he was taught and during his formal training it became apparent that the key discrepancy in understanding was the aetiology. For if you did not understand the cause of something (as is the case in orthodontics) then you do not really understand the problem its self. He has since campaigned tirelessly for a debate on the aetiology of malocclusion. He also feels that if there was a significant environmental influence, then there has to be a pathological process by which this occurs. Not happy with the existing philosophies or explanations he has mapped out the probable pathological process published under the term Craniofacial Dystrophy. Which suggests that malocclusion is possibly a symptom of incorrect facial development, along with other symptoms of the same problem being sleep apnea, TMD and many other ENT problem. Dr Mew has become a celebrity having spawned the Mewing phenomenon with a huge following around the world amongst the lay public. Some of who have gained phenomenal changes on facial structure from following simple exercise, very similar to myofunctional therapy. Current situation He is in the process of setting up research into sleep apnea and how this can be affected by treatment. He is currently using 3D scanning in an effort to improve the effectiveness of orthotropic therapy in influencing facial form in both adults and children.

One of the Founders of the International Functional Association (IFUNA) and of the International Paediatric Orthodontic Society (IPOS). In 2010, Dr. Patrick Fellus created the French Society of Paediatric Orthodontics, association law 1901 which aims to raise awareness, inform, and train the medical world and parents on the seriousness of the deformities and health problems created by a lack of normal growth caused by epigenetic factors. During his career, he was an expert at the Court of Appeal of Paris. For his work, he was awarded the Legion of Honor in 2013. His work has been published in various journals, not necessarily limited to orthodontics because of his physical science background, and he is a co-author of six textbooks. He has presented these findings in 38 countries, totaling over 500 presentations. He received multiple research grants during his tenure at UCLA, including the Groundbreaking Research Project Grant Award in 2014. His current focus has been establishing protocols for orthopedic corrections with MI, improving the airway for patients with nasal obstruction, creating virtual patients utilizing image analysis and FEM, and developing a novel Moon Aligner System. His interest in aligner systems began in 2010 as the aligner systems became popular, but they had countless shortcomings and could not achieve optimal orthodontic results. He has won the Center Award Grant from the American Association of Orthodontic Foundation (AAOF)in 2018 as a Co-PI of the research project, “Standard Characterization of Clear Orthodontic Aligner”, and the goal of the project was to develop protocols that can be used to evaluate the mechanical properties of clear aligners. He was also invited as a keynote speaker for the Congress of the Spanish Society of Aligners (SEDA) and National Congress of Italian Aligner Society (SIALIGN) in 2021. He is currently involved in multiple aligner research projects in collaboration with national and international colleagues. He holds multiple patents, three of which are aligner related, and more patents are on the way. His interest in mid-facial expansion began in 2004 as micro-implant became available in the USA, and he is responsible for developing Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE), a unique micro- implant assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE). He has been active in advocating non- surgical skeletal expansion in both children and adult patients, especially for those who may suffer from airway restrictions. His presentation in MSE has been widely accepted internationally, and numerous peer-reviewed publications are available.
